The Laws of Motivation - Pocket Reminders for Managers

For those who have that great responsibility in managing, leading and motivating others .. let me ask you these two questions: What sort of manager would you like to be managed by? And secondly: Are you that sort of person? These are two really pertinent and soul searching questions that every manager should ask themselves regularly, as they must build a foundation for the principles that will be conducive to a healthy management style. Here we will look at the laws of motivation. One could argue that they are principles rather than laws, but I prefer to use the word ‘laws’ because it implies that if you break them, you will receive a penalty. ![]() With out long explanations, I present you the Laws, the pocket reminders. 1. We have to be motivated to motivate 2. Motivation requires a goal 3. Motivation, once established, never lasts 4. Motivation requires recognition 5. Participation motivates. 6. Seeing ourselves progress motivates us. 7. Challenge motivates only if you can win 8. Everybody has a motivational fuse. Managers need to know how to ignite it. 9. Belonging to a group motivates.
